DIET BASED ON ANCIENT INDIAN SCRIPTURES

The food not only nourishes the body at the physical level but also at mental level. As per the Indian Ayurvedic Scriptures – Nature, the primary force of life is composed of 3 Gunas. i.e. Sattva, Rajasic and Tamasic.
SATTVA

Food: It is known as sattvic food and includes foods which are natural, freshly cooked and lightly seasoned. It is wholesome home meal is an ideal sattvic food. Eg. Fresh fruits and vegetables found locally and seasonally.
Whole grains like wheat, rice, beans, lentils, milk, ghee, curd and buttermilk.

Sattvic Personality: Sattvic individuals are loving, pure minded, happy, alert, aware and wise. One of the distinguished quality is that they have good control over emotions and do not easily get fatigue mentally. They have good quality of sleep.

RAJASIC

Food:It includes spicy, bitter and salty food which is excessively seasoned. It includes stimulants, irritants, canned, bottled and fermented foods. e.g. Non-veg food like fish, eggs, chicken, lamb and turkey. Stimulants like coffee, tea, sugar, chocolates and colas.

Rajasic Personality: Rajasic individuals are dominating, egoistic, proud, aggressive, hardworking, powerful with anger and jealousy.The distinguishing quality is the fear of failure with drained mental energy and thus also have disturbed sleep (insomnia). They require minimum 8 hours of sleep.

TAMASIC

Food: It is oily, stale, reheated, overprocessed food with artificial preservatives. Eg. Non-veg food like meat, beef, sausages and hot dogs.
Hard liquors like Gin, Vodka, Whisky and Rum.

Tamasic Personality: Tamasic individuals are drowsy, depressed, lazy, greedy, uncaring with lack of motivation. The distinguishing quality is that they need excessive sleep (somnabulism) and sleep even throughout the day. They are self centered and there is want of materialistic things.

INTROSPECTION

Who am I ?
Am I Sattvic, Rajasic or Tamasic ?
What I need to change in my diet ?

The answer to the questions are……
You need a Balance of all 3 Qualities for Survival.
Sattvic mentality helps in creative thinking with calm and clear mind.
Rajasic mentality will help in implementing these creative ideas into actions.
Tamasic mentality will bring an end to these activities and keep one grounded by providing stability.

Thus a balanced ratio of Sattvic : Rajasic : Tamasic is 65 : 25 :10

Also it very important to eat the Right portion/quantity @ Right Time which is measured with cups and grams.

Indulging in overeating of any one type of the above mentioned group will hamper the normal rhythm of the body.
